I visit Oceanside quite frequently, especially around the holidays. The Oceanside Pier is one of my favorite places to shoot. The pier makes great foreground, plus you could easily reposition yourself based on conditions or cloud formation. There is always something interesting going on here, such as surfers, street musicians, and animals. Occasionally I would run into some local photographers, and we would discuss our shots of the day or travel stories. It brings me familiarity and comfort, but also delivers fantastic colors. I have seen many sunsets here, some were utterly incredible, as you could see in the gallery here.
This year, however, I decided to do something a little different. I came to the pier a few days in a row and shot timelapses of the sunset. Because of the low tides, the beach was very smooth and long. I focused on the reflections on the beach and the clouds, and capturing the tides and movements of the clouds. Every day is a little different, yet similar. They say a picture is worth a thousand words; then maybe a video is worth a thousand photos? (Because this one is.) Happy holidays everyone! Enjoy!
